The best plan is to come by Metro as parking in the centre of Newcastle is hard to find and is expensive.
If you need to ask directions, most people will send you to the other St. Andrew’s in Newgate Street, which is a long walk away. It will be better to ask directions to the old Fire Station in Pilgrim Street.
By Metro
1. Get off Metro at Monument Station and take the Grey Street exit.
2. Walk down the hill (1 minute) and turn left after Lloyds Bank.
3. Walk up Market Street (1 minute) to the Police Station.
4. Turn right and walk down Pilgrim Street (1 minute) to ex-Fire Station.
5. At the corner of the Fire Station there is a blue sign pointing to St Andrews, down Worswick Street (1 minute).
By Bus
If you come by bus, try and get one that stops at Pilgrim Street, Market Street or Blackett Street. These streets are all clustered around Monument Metro so you can follow the instructions above.
By Train
From Newcastle Central Station, if it is raining, it is best to get the Metro one stop to Monument Metro, and then follow the instructions above. Alternatively if it is dry, it is about a 10 minute walk straight up Grainger Street. To find the start of Grainger Street, cross over the main road outside the station and walk to the right for 1 minute. Turn left at the County Thistle Hotel and you are looking straight up Grainger Street towards the Monument.
By Car
If you want to use the NCP Car Park in Carliol Square, drive to the Central Motorway (A167M) and turn off at the New Bridge Street sliproad, signposted City Centre. Follow the sign for City Centre B1309 until second traffic lights and turn left on John Dobson Street (under a large tower block) – there is a ‘P Oxford’ sign ahead of you. Go straight over at the end of John Dobson Street (near Chapmans) into Carliol Street and follow the road down the hill to the car park at the end of Carliol Square. Walk back up Carliol Square to St Andrew’s which you can’t miss. The postcode for SatNavs is NE1 6UJ.
